Summer-ize Your Hair Routine
Spring and summertime is the best time to pay extra attention to your strands because of sun exposure. Sitting in the sun too long can dry it out. The beach (salt water) and pool (chlorine) will also wreak havoc on your hair and ruin your color or create damage to chemically relaxed tresses.
Cleanse: Use a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup, oil, and sweat, such as Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three.
Protect: Apply an oil, Paul Mitchell Sun Shield Conditioning Spray or leave-in conditioner, Paul Mitchell After Sun Replenishing Masque, to your hair when you'll be exposed to the sun's rays for a prolonged period of time. Paul Mitchel The Creamcan also protect your hair from salt water and chlorine.
Hydrate: Drinking lots of water and healthy fluids and include water-rich foods in your diet.
Hats: The surefire way to block out all UV rays, hats are cheap and easy, and can be a great style accessory. IE: baseball cap, scarf or floppy hat.
Water Therapy: Colored hair should avoid chlorine and salt water as much as possible. If you do indulge in a swim, rinse hair immediately afterward in the shower or carry a big bottle of bottled water for a quick rinse, then apply

Summer is here and we all need to remember to protect our skin. Sunscreen remains one of the best ways to do this. It is important to remember that ALL skin types need sunscreen. People of color are at lower risk for skin cancer but still need the protection. Remember to choose an SPF of at least 30 and to reapply every two hours. This means that the suncreen in moisturizers and makeup is no longer viable after 2 hours.......it does not protect you all day. As you block your body's natural ability to make vitamin D normally when you wear suncreen, you should consider taking a vitamin D supplement. Also make sure that your sunscreen blocks UVB and UVA rays. In addition to protecting you from developing skin cancer you will get fewer lines, wrinkles and brown spots. Enjoy your summer!
